Travelogue Pt. 17

The Travelogue series recounts a seventeen-day-long cross-country road trip I took at age 21 with two college friends. We started in Charlotte, NC, and ended up two weeks and 8,000 miles later in Los Angeles, CA. The following is taken verbatim from a handwritten journal I laboriously kept on the trip. Names have been changed, but the rest is absolute, 100%, unedited truth.

They weren’t lying when they said LA is unlike anywhere I’ve ever lived. These people live in an unreal world.

Sarah’s apartment is incredible. 3 minute walk from the beach. Three bedroom, 3 bath. On the canal.

The first night we get there, Sarah says she’s house-sitting for a guy she just met. So we slept at his house. Thomas, ex-NFL. 4 story townhouse. Very nice neighborhood but def a bachelor pad. Half retarded white lab named Jordan we had to take on a few walks.

This whole place is just people living the life, working from home, making way too much money, partying way too hard, living way too close to the beach.

2nd night went to a “cookout” in Culver City. It was like a movie. Rooftop apt building, burgers, alcohol. They took pills before we even left home. Ubered there. Kids taking some serious drugs in a bedroom all night. Jessica got drunk and vomited in Tiffany’s bathroom. Eric a riot. Called me an angel inside and out. Aaron scary drunk by 11pm. Sarah and Eric stayed out til 4.

Got very burnt at beach the next day but the weather and water were prime.

Have applied for jobs. Submitting more resumes tomorrow. House currently smells like weed so strongly I’m getting a headache. Aaron shitfaced again. Sleeping in Steven’s room tonight. Still haven’t met him. Samantha leaves tom. Feeling very out of my element, like I might have gotten in over my head but I think a job will help.
